What Do Donald Trump and Raphael Warnock have in Common?

At first glance it would seem that former President Trump and Georgia U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock would have little in common, especially when it comes to politics and religion. In fact, it is in the (mis)practice of religion where they share a common perspective. That is, religious faith serves their politics. Both of them have corrupted the gospel of Jesus Christ for the sake of their political agendas. And, both of them have many followers who join in the political idolatry.

What can we Learn from Samson & Donald Trump?

We all have heroes. My childhood hero was Captain James T. Kirk, commander of the Starship Enterprise. Captain Kirk led the crew of the Enterprise on weekly treks to “explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before!” But that’s science fiction. I have other heroes, real men and women who acted heroically in the face of great danger. Jesus Christ is the first to come to mind. But there are others: Athanasius, George Washington, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, and Martin Luther King, Jr. As a child, one of my favorite biblical heroes was Samson. What makes a hero?

Kings, Prophets, and President Trump

I will pray for the success of the Trump administration, even though I did not vote for Mr. Trump. I pray that God will grant him wisdom to govern justly and the discipline to bridle his tongue. Christians are encouraged to “honor the king,” and to “give to Caesar that which belongs to Caesar.” Therefore, disciples of Jesus Christ should seek to respect everyone in authority, whether Democrat or Republican.
