The child of Mary will be called Jesus, a translation of the Hebrew, Yeshua (Joshua), which means “Yahweh saves!” Matthew references the words of Isaiah – Jesus is Immanuel – “God with us” and “Mighty God”. Throughout the Old Testament, God delivers by the power of his right hand. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus is God’s son, who is at the right hand of the Father.
